Can you define cultural adaptation?

A

Cultural adaptation can be defined as the process and time taken for an individual or a group to fully adopt or adapt to a foreign aspect of culture and be comfortable enough to perpetuate it.

During cultural adaptation, an individual or group often travels through (i) fascination with the foreign aspect of culture, (ii) shock, where the pre-existing, contrary beliefs of one culture don’t support integrating the new culture trait, (iii) recovery, where the people think, “oh it’s not that bad, I can live with this”, and (iv) adjustment, where they alter their culture to make room for the new.
