Q

What are the three major buffer systems of the body and how do they work?

A

They are as follows:

  1. Protein buffer system (maintains cell acidity)
  2. Phophate buffer system (neutralises extra hydrogen ions)
  3. Carbonic acid bicarbonate buffer system (neutralises acids)

Additionally, all of them maintain pH homeostasis of the human blood.
