It contains five laws, which resulted in the ports of Boston being closed down until fines were paid. It was passed after the Boston massacre occurred, and shortly after the Boston Tea Party. It was seen as an outright violation of the rights of the majority because they were all being punished for the “crime” of dumping tea.
