What is the question that individuals ask during the norming stage of group development?

Why does it matter?
A

Groups are vital when doing different tasks. People will come together to make them happen and get results quicker. However, groups don’t just happen. They go through a series of steps as discussed by Bruce Tuckman: forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning. Questions are asked at each stage in order to help everyone understand the group goals in a better way and get aligned to achieve them.

During the forming stage, the type of question you find is, “why are we here?” Next is the forming stage where people express their ideas and tend to disagree and therefore, questions like “Why are taking this route?” arise. During the norming stage of group development, individuals ask the question, “What do the others expect me to do?” This is important because understanding the questions that group individuals ask themselves at every stage of development helps a leader in effective group management.

When performing, members can ask. “What else can we do?” lastly during the adjournment stage, the question is, “What will I do now?”
