What is universal white male suffrage?

A

Universal manhood suffrage is a kind of voting rights where all adult males in a given political system are permitted to vote without considering qualifications such as their race, income, religion, property. It is a concept comparable to the “one man, one vote” concept. The re-establishment of universal male suffrage came in place in 1789 following the approval of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen.

Voting in the US prior to the 19th century was narrowed down to a particular section of white males who owned property in all the states and paid taxes as well. With the growth in population, the country began to ease voting rights. This is a revolution that led to white male suffrage that allowed voting by males without looking at the earlier stated qualifications.
