Q

List and briefly describe each of the five strength training principles.

A

The five strength training principles are:

  • Overload
  • Recovery
  • Specificity
  • Reversibility
  • Periodization

In overload, extreme ascending amounts of stress are placed on the body. This infliction causes a form of strain on the muscles, leading to adaptations and then improving fitness

Recovery talks about the body’s ability to adapt to the stress caused by extreme workout sessions. Generally, the muscles get torn when overstressed but with time, it tends to heal from the tear and it adapts to even bigger loads.

In specificity, the body makes specific adaptations to specific forms of exercise it is exposed to

Reversibility refers to the consistency in training efforts to achieve or to maintain optimal fitness levels. Long-term fitness plans done at a stretch are paramount in strength training. Fitness strength training is done at extended periods of time. This is what Periodization entails.
