Q

Unlike photosynthesis, cellular respiration occurs in:

A. animal cells only

B. plant cells only

C. prokaryotic cells only

D. all eukaryotic cells

A

Answer: D. all eukaryotic cells

Cellular respiration and photosynthesis are two similar cellular processes and at the same time, very opposite. While photosynthesis works by utilizing carbon dioxide and water and converting it into glucose, cellular respiration works by breaking down glucose and oxygen into carbon dioxide and water. All living cells use cellular respiration for energy generation but not all living cells are capable of practicing photosynthesis. Unlike photosynthesis, cellular respiration occurs in all eukaryotic cells. Eukaryotes include both plant and animal cells and energy production is extremely important for the sustenance of life.
