Which properties make a metal a good material to use for electrical wires?

A. malleability and reactivity

B. conductivity and ductility

C. ductility and malleability

D. reactivity and conductivity

A

Answer: B. conductivity and ductility

Electrical wires as widely known are very good conductors of electricity but another important property considered when making these wires is ductility. Ductility refers to the ability of metals to have their shapes changed especially by being drawn into a wire without breaking or losing strength. Ductility permits the bending of structures without rupturing or fracturing these structures. Ductility and conductivity kind of defines most of the concept of wires. With this, wires are made tiny and are still able to transmit power through very long distances. One reason copper is a preferred choice of material for making wires is because of its good conductivity and ductility.
